You can use alternative tools such as GUIs (graphical user interfaces) made by community members to create, extract and upload addons to Steam Workshop. Please see this page for complete set of rules: There are a few rules before you start uploading addons. Be sure to put them where Steam devs are (more?) likely to see them. This article will teach you how to prepare and upload an addon to the Steam Workshop.

I haven't used it for a couple years (not since the Steam Controller came out), but I imagine it can be made to launch applications too.Īnyway, I like your ideas for BPM. If you don't yet have a Steam Controller, it's on sale right now.Īnd of course you know about Antimicro for other controllers.

Mind you, it is still being developed and rough edges are to be expected. (it's also waaayyyy lighter on resources than BPM could ever be). SCC has an onscreen keyboard built in and is wildly customizable. Set it to run on start-up using your own Desktop profile (or a BPM profile, if you've chosen to launch Steam in BPM on startpup) and you can set up a custom menu (or menus) to launch Netflix, Amazon, etc.

If you have an almighty Steam Controller, you might like what you can do with kozek's sc-controller driver (a.k.a. I'd also cross-post at SteamOS portion of Steam Universe because so much of what you've written would be especially useful within SteamOS's perma-Big-Picture-mode. Great ideas! Be sure to cross-post this at both /r/steam and Steam's Big Picture group. But you can't do anything about on-screen keyboard always opening on the second screen in desktop mode. Gladly you can do a workaround using Steam Controller chords. * = For example setting BPM to start on your second display, a feature that you can find on the Windows build. Add-ons would bring Steam BPM from static game launcher to living experience.

That would be the best of both PC and console worlds. You can't even imagine doing half of that stuff on consoles. Heck, you could connect to your homepage via ssh and make the background change color every time you happen to press X on your controller. You could make your smart lights tone down automatically when you start BPM. You could add important email/irc/whatsapp notifications to interrupt your gaming. You could add subreddit or social media feed right into your home page. You could integrate Twitch streams right into your library for each respective game. You could build a nice integrated GUI for your open source games and emulators. You could make Steam start playing chiptune radio when you start BPM with your custom theme. Having plugins would allow you to customize your whole experience to look like you. No convenient way to watch local video.īut those are the obvious benefits. No convenient way to watch Netflix, Youtube, Vimeo, Twitch. Secondly and this is the bigger issue, BPM lacks features. First, the several bugs and lack of basic features you can't avoid (like horrible browser experience, missing desktop mode features and poor multi-display support*). I like the fact that I can take a break from work and just sit on my couch, grab a controller and play something to relax, using the same computer.
